MAYFLY

2005

Through his solo projects, Cy has found the opportunity to express his personal thoughts, as well as varied musical perspectives. His first solo album, MAYFLY, released in 2005, had an experimental edge; the songs all written and produced during an extremely compressed period of time.

THE RETURNING SUN

2007

Cy's solo release, The Returning Sun, took shape from a tumultuous period in Cy's life, and was spawned by lyrics from a some-time Fixx collaborator, Jeanette Obstoj. The record has 10 cuts that are moody and soul stirring; you get a sense of more of Curnin's soul being scooped out into the notes here. It's an at-times gloriously melancholy record that just smacks of a mature standpoint.

SOLAR MINIMUM

2009

Solar Minimum. It's the name given the cycle where sunspots diminish on the surface of the sun and reduce the space temperature around the planet earth. And right now we are in the deepest one seen in a hundred years. The world we 're living in is feeling cold in lots of ways other than the sun's warmth. We are experiencing contractions -- economically, globally and personally. This period has me looking to the sky and, at the same time, looking inward. - Cy

CINEMA FOR THE BLIND

2012

Cinema for the Blind,`` is a 4-track ambient instrumental EP featuring atmospheric electronica to counter act the negative effects of movement. Track titles, Forest Funeral, Winter and Spring in Sologne, Vital Void, and Life's Cloak, spark curiosity and imagination even before the first note.
``Cinema for the Blind was created in the space that exists between the functions of daily life. I realised that the ringing in my ears left by the humdrum, actually has a beautiful melody if I slowed it down. I wanted to escape the confines of words and lyrical exactitude here. To let the grace of sound carry the listener away into their own tranquility.`` - Cy

HORSE'S MOUTH

2013

The old proverb says “Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth,” though Cy Curnin’s latest solo release “Horses’s Mouth” is well worth closer inspection. The album, produced by Curnin and Nick Jackson, is thematically more optimistic than 2012’s “Solar Minimum.” Curnin is less nuanced about his feelings, trading metaphor for stating his feelings outright, and it’s an interesting change.

``The Horse's Mouth is probably the most eclectic mix so far of my solo efforts. It's more direct lyrically. More political, less philosophical. The album is a subjective commentary on the world and the bombardment of ``information`` through social media. The path of news is less likely to become skewed, the closer one is to the source. Or, as they say, straight from the Horse's Mouth.`` -Cy
